WELCOME HOME!

Once you have bought your bird and you arrive home, make sure to check all the doors, windows and similar openings are securely shut, and that there are no unguarded open fires and that all gas and electric appliances are switched off. Once all is in order you can transfer the bird from its traveling case to the cage (you can ask your breeder or dealer on what to transfer the bird in, sometimes they give you a little box, but nothing to big or it will scare the bird). So the best way to get the bird from the case to the cage is to place the open doors of the case and the cage together; generally, after a little hesitation, the bird will move into its new home.

It is also best to install the bird into its new cage as soon as possible, preferably before noon so that it as time to settle into its new strange surroundings, before nightfall. And also give it time to find the positions of the perches and find its roost spot.

In the first few days keep a close eye on it to ensure that the bird has found its food dish. In case of doubt skater seeds on the floor (cockatiels are natural ground feeders). So they will not starve as long as there is seed on the floor. And eventually will find the food bowl. One last thing for a newly arrived cockatiel it should be handled as little as possible.

There is alot more to having a bird a suggest you buy a book on your birds.

I hope I gave you some insight on what to do. And if you decide to get a bird, I am happy for you. They are the best and most wonderful pets; they are a bundle of joy!
